80 Years of Wisdom + The Top 10 Basic Steps to Living a Full, Healthy Life
Whatdya get when you put three generations of women together in one place?
. . .
Love, laughter, and wisdom.
80 years of wisdom, to be exact.
This year, my beautiful grandmother, AKA Nanny, turned 80, and she’s still as vibrant and healthy as she was as far back as I can remember. Today, we talked about life, health, happiness, fear, family, relationships, and all the challenges that life sometimes brings us and the ways in which we choose to deal with failure and be vulnerable enough to tell our stories and share our natural gifts with others.
It occurred to me that I am so lucky to have 80 years of wisdom to learn from, so I took advantage and put together a compilation of Nanny’s best tips on living a full, healthy life in this crazy world.
The most amazing thing about this woman is her openness to continue to learn and grow as a person, as a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and even, get this, a fiancé!
What I took away from this conversation most was the idea that age is seriously just a number, but wisdom - wisdom is found in those who take on the challenges of life with courage, compassion, and love.
Her message is simple…
#1: Keep your mind and body active
Do things you enjoy, that light you up, and always challenge yourself to be better every day.
#2: practice gratitude
Never take what you already have fore-granted.
#3: Always say thank you
To God, to the Universe, to your source of guidance for giving you a foundation of life.
#4: Make Family and friends a priority
Surround yourself with people you love and cherish, who support you, who love you, and who will always have your back no matter what.
#5: Cook Your own food
One of the best things you can do for your health is be conscious of what you put inside your body - you only have one, take care of it.
#6: Never go hungry
Don’t give yourself the opportunity to overeat or fill yourself up with unnourishing food.
#7: A glass of wine a day does the body good
Because life is too short to just play it safe ;).
#8: Be love, accept love, and give love
in all areas of your life
One of the most greatest gifts you have is love - give it, receive it, and own it within yourself.
#9: follow ‘the golden rule’: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
In life and in business, never burn your bridges and give more than you take because it will come back to you.
…and finally
#10: Be truly happy with yourself
No one is any better than you, nor is anybody worse than you - we’re all doing life together and we’re all exactly where we are meant to be.
It’s never too late or too soon to learn something new.
The way I see it, if an 80 year old Italian American woman can be open enough to learn from someone 50 years younger, than maybe we owe it to ourselves to be open enough to learn a little something from them too!
